Introduction to the Sabbath-rest

Blessed be our Father and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. I would love to acknowledge God for gracing me with an opportunity though His Spirit to write an article about “The principle of the sabbath-rest.”

It is important to note that this article is not the bible and does not replace the bible in any way, but a help to make your bible reading easy, the purpose of this project is neither to add nor to take away from the sacred scripture. Consult your bible to authenticate all that is said in this study. Your bible is the inspired word of God.

Revelations 22 vs. 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Deuteronomy 4 vs. 2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Today because of the demands of family and life, more people are in constant hot pursuit of work from dawn to dusk, all the days of a week (24/7), all year round without rest. We all have become busier, tired, stressed, depressed, repressed, oppressed, and burdened, and have become slaves and victims of our tide schedules and busy lives. Our lives have become a disaster because there is no rest, more and more time is spent pursue things of the flesh rather than the things of the spirit.

One cannot reach the full understanding of the word of God without the Holy Spirit who is the only teacher. I myself am not claiming to know all but know Him who knows all, who saw it fit to use me as a vessel of His revelation to this generation.

Many teachers of the word of God go into great extend in teaching cessation of work on the seventh day of the week or Saturday. However, not much is understood about the sabbath-rest. One is introduced to the principle of the sabbath-rest but not introduced to the Christ of the Sabbath so that one might enter into His rest. Thus, one misses receiving the sabbath-rest which creates a calm and peaceful expectation of deliverance from sin and death by the power of God's Word.

This article is an attempt to expose to you the true meaning and the power of God’s principle of rest for your body, your soul and your spirit. It is import to note that cessation from work on the seventh day of the week does not constitute God’s principle of rest as many of the teachers of the word have made the world to believe. This kind of rest is one dimensional and diminishes the power of God from His principle of rest, since one is introduced to the principle of sabbath-rest without being introduced to the Lord of the Sabbath, so that one might enter His rest and find refreshing.

As long as Israel was in slavery to Egypt, could not cease from his labor, and could not worship God. The sacred scripture declares in Exodus 5 that more tasks we added to keep them bound to their duties.

Exodus 5 vs. 5 Again Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are now many, and you would have them cease from their labors!” 6 So the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters over the people and their foremen, saying, 7 “You are no longer to give the people straw to make brick as previously; let them go and gather straw for themselves.

Like the Israelite in Egypt, the world today is in constant hot pursuit of labor, there are tasks after task to be performed, and dead line after dead line to be met, not time for rest, no time for God, and no time for worship.

God’s original plan is for man to enjoy His everlasting blessed rest, but due to sin of the First Adam the true rest of God was lost. God delivered Israel and gave them rest from the oppression of Pharaoh, and they were to observe this day as a memorial forever. The rest God gave to Israel was the rest of the Law, not the rest experienced by the first Adam in the Garden, but a shadow of the true rest which God was to give to us through the Last Adam (Jesus). I will explain this in details as we advance with our study. The rest God gave to Israel required the work of obedience from them, but the rest that we get in Jesus is as a result of the work of faith of Christ.

Remember, the true rest of God brings about refreshing as well as creates a calm and peaceful expectation of deliverance from sin and death.

I hope this article finds you in time and set you free from bondage and rescue you from all your labor and all the cares of this world and set you to the path of true rest in Jesus Christ.

May God's be mercyful and cause the light of His face to shine upon you.
