Being possessed or being oppressed by the devil

I am currently writing an article on the topic “Every spirit(s) on earth needs a body”. In this article I am revealing to you the power and authority possessed by a born again believer in Christ over all the works of the devil.

Possession - First you need to understand that being possessed does not mean being owned, but it mean: to have the evil spirit or to be influenced by it. In short, possession means the actual act of having control of another's body or soul. It is not scriptural to think that being possessed means being owned by the evil spirit. No evil spirit owns any person whether believer or non believer. The sacred scripture in Ezekiel 18:4 declares that all souls “lives” belongs to God.

Ezekiel 18:4 King James Version (KJV)
4Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Oppression - Secondly you need to understand that being oppressed means being vexed, harassed, tormented or troubled by an evil spirit.

Things that open the door for the evil spirits:
  1. Sin opens the door for demon oppression and possession in one’ life.
  2. Encouraged the spirit to be around you or spent time with it (didn’t “send it away” as soon as you realized it was evil or demonic spirit)
  3. Inviting demonic influences - You MUST have agreed to be possessed (You cannot be controlled by evil spirits unless your agreement or without you inviting them in)

For you to understand the topic in question you must first understand that your whole being consists of three: that is the spirit, soul and body. You are a spirit, lived in a physical body and possessing a soul.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 King James Version (KJV)
23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The spirit - the spirit is the part of man that was created after the image and the likeness of God, the spirit is the real you who was united and sealed by the Holy Spirit of God when you were born again. The spirit was both purchased and redeemed when you accepted Jesus as you person Lord and Saviour.

Ephesians 4:30 Amplified Bible (AMP)
30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin).

The sacred scripture in 2 Corinthians 5:17 speak of the spirit when it says: therefore if a man is in Christ, he “the spirit” is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.

2 Corinthians 5:17 King James Version (KJV)
17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

You must also note according to the sacred scripture in Hebrews 4:12 the spirit is not the same as the soul but the two are distinct from one another. The spirit cannot be touched through the five sense but can only be touched though the word of God.

Hebrews 4:12 King James Version (KJV)
12For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The soul - the soul is the faculty of the mind, will and emotion. The soul can be touched though the mind, the will and the emotion since it is the seat of the mind, will and emotions. When you were born again the soul was purchased but not redeemed yet. The soul may remain in darkness or allow darkness long after you accept Jesus. This is the area of your life where the evil spirit may dwell. It is the duty of every Christian or born again believer to renew the mind daily through the word of God, it is only thought the word that the soul can be transformed to a point where it can prove what is good, and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:1-3 King James Version (KJV)
2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The body - the body is the area of your life that can be touched through the five senses. Also this area of man can was purchase but not redeemed, similar to the soul the body may remain in darkness or allow darkness long after you accept Jesus.

Romans 12:1-3 King James Version (KJV)
1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
May Gods’ be mercyful and cause the light of His face to shine upon you.
