Introduction to the cross

We all know that God created man and placed him in the Garden of Eden, and then He gave man a commandment not to eat the tree of knowledge of evil and good. The commandment that God gave to man was a commandment of obedience more that a commandment of DOs or DO NOTs. God expected obedience from Adam as an expression and declaration of love for HIM. IT HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT THE FRUIT OF A TREE, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT A FREE WILL LOVE. For you to really grasp this concept you must first understand the relationship between free will love and obedience.

The sacred scripture in 1 John 4:8 declares that God is LOVE. Love doesn’t take, and love always gives. Love always desire and seek to do well to others without anticipating anything back. Love is a free response - not an order. Obedience on the other hand is a higher form of submission to authority. God created Adam and gave him a will and a choice. On completion of His work God called Adam to enter His rest as an expression of His love for him. Though God had power and authority over Adam He did not exercise authority and control over him. God wanted Adam who was under his authority to freely decide to obey His authority. In so doing, the subordinate “Adam” was to become a willing follower, who bows in honour and respect, and considers service a privilege. God required obedience as an expression and declaration of love for Him from the first Adam.

But we all know that the first Adam disobeyed God and because of His disobedience the whole world was cursed.

Genesis 3: 17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life.

Paul also expresses this surd truth in Ro 5:12.

Romans 5: 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-

For illustration purposes I want you to image a curse as a rain. The rain curse rains on all regardless of age, social status, or race. So, the whole world because of the disobedience of the first Adam was under a rain curse. It must be said with great emphasis that it was not Gods’ plan for man to live in a rain curse. Gods’ original plan was such that man may have life in abundance. We also know that God abound in love, grace and mercy, because of His abounding love, grace and mercy He choose Abram for Himself and made a promise to bless him if he obey HIM.

You will note again that God expected obedience from Abram as He expected obedience from Adam as an expression and declaration of love towards God.

The blessings that God bestowed upon Abram was a form of an umbrella, this umbrella protected Adam from the rain curse of the world. It must be said hear and now that the promise which God later made sure by a covenant were to Abraham and his descendants, this truth is unambiguous from the scripture below:

Genesis 17: 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you. 7 I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your [a]descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your [b]descendants after you. 8 I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”

The covenant God made with Abram is the umbrella I spoke about earlier. This covenant became umbrella to protect Abram and his entire descendant from the rain curse of the of the world. Note that the descendants were born under the umbrella; they did not do anything to deserve a place under the umbrella but were born under the umbrella and enjoyed the constant flow of Gods’ blessing upon their lives. It must also be state that though the descendant we born there, the flow of the blessing upon each of them would be short circuited or stopped when they miss the mark thought the sin of disobedience. Because of the stoppage or cessation of the flow of blessing to those God blessed in Abraham in the event of missing the mark, God gave the sacrificial system through the law. The purpose of the sacrificial law was to restore those whose blessings have stopped to flow into their lives because of disobedience.

May I also submit to you that God also blessed ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH in the seed of Abram. This was to say ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH have a place under the Abrahamic covenant umbrella, but for a very long time we do not see them enjoying the shade and the covering of this umbrella.

Genesis 12: 3 And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

The reason why the ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH could not enjoy the covering of the Abrahamic covenant umbrella was because the law was given to the descendant of Abraham not to all the families of the earth. So, the law though it was good and spiritual it worked against the gentiles. It was because of the law the Gentiles could not claim their place immediately under the umbrella.

Ephesians 2: 11 Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called “Uncircumcision” by the so-called “Circumcision,” which is performed in the flesh by human hands- 12 remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

The scripture in the book of Deuteronomy declares anyone who is guilty of sin deserving death, must be stoned and hanged on a tree because that one is cursed of God, But the scripture in Roman 3, 5 has concluded ALL HAS SINNED, also in Romans 5 the scripture declares that the reward of SIN IS DEATH. This is to say the whole world is guilty of sin deserving DEATH and must be hanged on a tree because the whole world is CURSED of God.

Romans 3: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 5: 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.
Romans 6: 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The whole world is stand accused before God, already judged waiting for the punishment it deserves. But because of the ever abounding love, grace and mercy of God, the bible declares that; God is willing to left the sins committed beforehand unpunished. The next question will be how is He planning to do this?

Romans 3: 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood-to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-

Remember! That God gave Israel the sacrificial system as a way to realise them from all sins and give them atonement of sins. The problem with this is that the law is weak (Rom 8:3) through the flesh. People continually committed sin, as a consequence continually offered sacrifice year after year which was a reminder of sin committed; because of this one’s conscience could not be clear of sin. The law God gave to Israel was never satisfied with the sacrificed offered, hence continued to require scarifies from them.

Romans 8: 3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

God so it fit to offer His only begotten son Jesus Christ as a lamb to take away the sins of the world, a propitiation for our sins, an atoning sacrifice. The bible declared that Jesus took upon himself the sins of the world, because of our sins which were upon him the fierce anger of God came upon him, because of our sin which were upon Him faced the death of the cross, and was hanged on a tree to fulfil the law that says: Cursed is the one who hangs on a tree. Paul in Gal 3: 13 says: He became a curse for us. In 1Cor 5:21 he declares that He who knew no sin became sin for us, so that we may be the righteousness of God.

Galatians 3: 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us-for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE”-

Jesus in deed fulfils all the requirements of the law by becoming the last sacrifice according to the law. Because of the work He accomplished in Calvary there is no more sacrifice to offer. He sacrificed Himself once and for all and removed our sins once and for all, so that those who were stand accused before God waiting for their punishment may be declared not guilty before God. So that the scripture may be true that says: Therefore there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8: 1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

Through Jesus Christ, we can now claim our rightful place and enjoy the shadow and covering of the Abrahamic covenant blessings. In Christ we have already been blessed with all spiritual blessings in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2: 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, 16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.
In conclusion:

What does it mean to hang on a tree? Remember! that man was made of both the earth material and heaven material, hanging on a tree means you have been rejected by both the earth and the heaven you came from. Jesus at the cross suffered the pain of being rejected by both. You must remember that at the cross He cried “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me”. Thank God because of Jesus I don’t have to face the same pain and anguish. At the cross He declared: “It is finished”, meaning my salvation is a done deal, all the work required for me to be saved has be accomplished. Thank God I do not have to bring any deeds or works of righteousness to be acquitted from sin. Jesus has done it all. TODAY! He is calling for all to enter His complete Sabbath rest and find refreshing for their body, soul and sprit.

God expect a free will love from all of us the same way He expected if from the first Adam, Abram and the last Adam “Jesus”. Jesus willingly surrendered his will for the will of God.

Luke 22: 42 saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”

NB: If you are reading this message but you don’t know or you have never experience the complete rest and refreshing I am talking about. You are one step close to receiving all I have witnessed to you about. Do yourself a favour by making the prayer below:

Heavenly God and Father of all. I am a sinner. Today! I repent from all sins. Right now I come before your throne of love, grace and mercy. Save me Oh! Lord, I accept you sacrifice. I acknowledge that Jesus is Your son. Who died for me at the cross, was buried at the tomb, resurrected on the third day, and ascended to heaven where He is sitted at the right hand of God. He is alive and forever more, because he is alive, I have hope that you will raise me up and quicken my spirit through the same Jesus. Thank you for saving me. I am saved right now in Jesus name, Amen.
